paddling with a camera

My picture of the winter sunset on South Platte River was just published by Ducks Unlimited magazine (July/August 2005) in the article "Mile-High Geese" about geese hunting in the shadow of the Front Range.

I am paddling South Platte mostly in winter and I need to coexist with hunters. I've never had any troubles. Just once, a game and fish warden had some doubts whether I should be allowed to use State Wilderness Area for kayak launching. He was a "good" guy and he was saying what the other officer could not like ... Nevertheless, I had to listen to the lecture on paddling along a private land and that I was not allowed to touch the river bottom. It was quite funny since at the same time I could see hunters walking across and along the river which was not deeper than one foot.

My winter paddling on South Platte is illustrated by couple of video clips featuring geese and hunters. Right now, most of the water is diverted to irrigation and the South Platte below Greeley is very low. However, it seems to be possible to paddle South Platte at Denver, probably all the way to Fort Lupton due to weekend dam releases.
