Paddling in the Rain - Dillon Lake in Colorado Rocky Mountains

It is quite challenging to shoot decent pictures when paddling in the rain, but it may be rewarding. Technically, it is not a problem. A waterproof camera like my Pentax Optio W10 can handle any rain. However, it may be difficult to find a cooperating light. Whenever it is raining and I am on water I am trying to do something with my camera. The results are typically not very exciting as in the case of a springtime rain on the Horsetooth Reservoir.

Last Sunday, when driving back from the race in Glenwood Canyon, I stopped for a couple of hours at Frisco and paddled Thunderbolt kayak on Dillon Lake. I launched at Frisco Marina and paddled among small islands in the western part of the lake where I was met by a heavy shower. However, the surrounding mountains were still lit by sunlight and I got my chance to shoot some nice pictures.

So, do not forget about your camera when it's raining (at least if it is a waterproof one) ! Of course, I shot also a plenty of sunny pictures on the Dillon Lake that afternoon. It is a great place for paddling.
