Is It Possible to Paddle Cache la Poudre River in Winter?

Cache la Poudre River Another black and white picture. This time I went for an afternoon walk together with Dax, one of my Newfounlands, to Arapaho Bend Natural Area to check my paddling waters there.

After several warm days there is some open water along shores of Beaver Pond, just enough for a desperate paddler. I found also some paddling possibility on the Poudre River: almost a quarter of mile of slowly flowing water above I-25 highway. Despite of a miserable winter flow of not more than 30 cfs it seemed that it may be enough water there for some paddling.

This river segment starts just below a portage between Little and Big Bass Ponds and the river for the proposed Poudre Loop Race. However, those ponds are still frozen, so it would be necessary to carry a boat for quite a distance from a trail head parking.
