05/11/2006. I had to put my new habitat stamp to some use, so I drove early morning to Boedecker Reservoir in Loveland. It was 20 minutes of driving from southern Fort Collins, not much longer than driving to a closer Beaver Pond. A few minutes more of driving south will bring you to Lonetree Reservoir

There is a convenient launching at or near boat ramp. Only a small portion of the lake shore near the boat ramp is accessible to public (State WIlderness Area), the rest is developed and covered with houses. There are nice views of the Front Range. You can also see Devil's Backbone at foothills.

I started to paddle just before sunrise. It was cold, 33F, and breezy. The reservoir was nearly full. I needed 4 miles to circumnavigate it. The picture of a storm over the lake was shot a few days earlier when I stopped there after inline skating along the Big Thompson River.
