Olympus is releasing a new waterproof compact digital camera: Stylus 790SW. Finally, Olympus upgraded the video mode to 30 fps, so the Stylus 790SW will be comparable with Pentax Optio W10, W20, W30 cameras concerning the video quality.

Unless there is a mistake in listings, the new model will be "less waterproof" than the Stylus 770SW: up to 10" instead 33", but this really does not matter for a paddler. Divers can buy an optional underwater housing. Other accessories include a protective silicon skin and a floating strap .

The new camera will be available by October 15, 2007 at Amazon for $299.99, so it will be less expensive than the previous models.

You can compare technical specifications for 790SW and 770SW at the Olympus website, but I don't see any other major differences.

And, I almost forgot the most important thing - you can choose this camera in one of five colors: silver, black, orange, lime, and blue. Wow!

Olympus is also introducing three new models of all-weather splashproof cameras: Stylus 820, 8MP with 5x optical zoom, Stylus 830, 8MP with dual image stabilized 5x optical zoom, and Stylus 1200, 12MP with 3x optical zoom.
