paddling with a camera

Obviously, we should not have problems with water and moisture. These cameras are also dust proof. It is true as long as we keep all seals clean and in good conditions. Putting sand or grease to the battery door seal may be a killer. I never change my battery or memory card in a dirty environment. It is also good idea to keep that door securely locked. I believe that Pentax introduced automatic locks in the W30 model latches which should prevent some mishaps.

Salt is not a problem since we can always rinse the waterproof camera in a fresh water.

Olympus Stylus SW series is advertised as a shockproof (up to 5 feet drop). However, what camera owner has guts to test this feature? Laurie, a commenter to my blog, accidently dropped a new Stylus SW 720 on a kitchen floor. Her camera stopped working ... Laurie, how tall are you?

There are surprisingly many reports of the cameras lost when paddling. Our cameras are waterproof but they do not float. So, keep them on a tether or use a floating strap or other buoyancy aid.
